Brilliant Finnish 'Pop-Neo-Rockabilly'. If You Like The Stray Cats And The Cars, You'll Like Nine Lives.


This, The Second Album I've Heard From This Finnish Band, Opens Really Well With Red Light District Which Has Great Chord Structure And Is Very Catchy Mid-Tempo Neo-Rockabilly Track. From Then On In, The Songs Seem To Alternate Between Boppers And Slow, Moody And Meaningful Ballads - Which I'd Like To Have Seen Less Of To Be Honest, Because When They Rock This Band Are Dynamite. Nine Lives Are Obviously Well Accomplished Musicians And The Album Is Very Well Produduced. As Far As I Can Tell Most Are Original Tracks With The Exception Of Their Version Of The Bangles' 'Walk Like An Egyptian' - Which Is Powerful And Works Well.

This Record Has Our Finnish Heroes Breaking Away From Their Obvious Rockabilly Influence Into A More Experimental Sound That Really Works. Hints Of Rockabilly Are Still There, But More So With An Alternative/Surf Influence. The Result Is Absolutely Amazing, Not To Mention.... Their Cover Of 'Walk Like An Egyptian'!!!!! "The Second Record By Nine Lives Continues With The Excellent Music That Their Debut 'Common Trap' Laid The Foundation To. The First Thing I Noticed Is Their Inclusion Of The Bangles' Hit 'Walk Like An Egyptian'!! This Isn't Really Too Far Out For Nine Lives As Their Sound Is Very Heavily Rooted In Alternative Rock With A Roots/Rnr Flair That Gives Them Their Unique Sound. Add A Touch Of Surf And You Have The Unique Mix That Is Nine Lives. There Are Some Good Tunes To Be Found, One Of My Favorites Being The Instrumental 'Rat-Bite' Which Sums Up Their Style Very Well, Fusing The Best Elements Of Rockabilly/Alternative Rock/Surf Into A Kick Ass Song. Antti Pasanen's Vocals Lead The Way With His Smooth, Velvety Harmonies That Never Sound Strained Or Out Of Harmony With The Perfectly Played Music His Band Serves Up. A Great Follow-Up By One Of The Most Unusual Bands To Carry The 'Rockabilly' Label."
