CD - Long Gone Trio - Wild Cat Juice

The Long Gone Trio has a very simple line-up of electric & acoustic guitars and an upright bass, just like, you guessed it, Elvis, Scotty & Bill. And that's all you need according to rockabilly legend Charie Feathers. When you listen to the "Wildcat Juice" album, released on the European label El Toro Records, you will hear a load of basic rockabilly music, very simple and very effective. All but one of the
13 tracks of the album were selfpenned by the trio, and I must say they did a real good job. The remaining track is a cover of Johnny Horton's "Goodbye Lonesome". Overall you can hear that Johnny Horton had quite some influence on the band's music, especially on lead guitarist Tom Sanderson, but some early Johnny Cash sounds can also be heard (It's You Whose Makin' You Lonesome).

Tom's razor sharpe and sometimes real low down guitar riffs are pretty cool, the slapping bass is not overdone (like in some neo-rockabilly bands) and it keeps the rhythm all the way, no drums needed. Pat Bova's voice is cut out perfectly for vintage rockabilly music, he even throws in a bit of 50's stuttering (Don't Move Me). 
What can I say? This is a real good authentic rockabilly band with a catchy new rockabilly album. I think I will forgive them the steel guitar on the country hillbilly song "Last Of My Junk". If you let the CD spin after the last song, you will find a Santo & Johnny style bonus instrumental at the end of track 13.
