The Hi-Winders war formed in 1992 from two constellations; The Hi-Lite Trio and Wildfire Willie & The Ramblers. The Hi-Lite Trio had then existed for a few years with two different singers; first as Ravin' Joe & the Hi-Lite Trio and later as Shakin' Lee Taylor & the Hi-Lite Trio.
Jan Svensson from Wildfire Willie & the Ramblers joined for a gig at easter of 1992, as The Phantom & The Hi-Winders wearing a mask the entire show.
They got the name from an Hot Rod Club (still excist)
In the beginning of 1994 they were asked by Tail Records to write a song for the annual Power Car Meet in Sweden. The song Jan Svensson and Per Thorsell wrote a wet night at their local hang out "Bröderna Olssons Garlic & Shots" in Stockholm was "A whote Lotta Power" The song was recorded two weeks later and became a 7" single b/w "Bloodshot" (the no 1 shot at Garlic & Shots) on Hi-Lite Records (their own label). That summer an alt. version was relaesed together with Go-Getters contribution to the Power Meet single "Go go to the Power Meet" This single was handed out in 6000 copies as an entrance ticket! Later that year the Hi-Lite Racords single spread over Europe and DJ's started spinning it at clubs. They soon started touring Europe and the first gig abroad was in Bregenz in Austria. They toured Belgien, Holland, Germany, France and England in 1994 and -95. The stage show became known as one of the wildest around.
The next record release was a 7" single on Tail Records -95 called "Miss Angel Face b/w an instrumental called "Skyscraper" (inspired by the view from a hotel in Frankfurt during a tour).
And from Frankfurt sprung an EP from Witchcraft Rec just a month later. This German record contained two vocals "Boogie Woogie Feeling" and "Flea Circus" and two instrumentals "Twin Pipes & a Columbia Butt" and "Indian Runner" During 1995 they made totally five european tours.
In 1995 they got booked on The Hemsby Festival in England and started to record a full lentgh record to be released in time for the festival. They recorded the 10" vinyl in Mobile Mooneye's studio in Enviken, Sweden. The record "The Hi-Winders are Rockin' With The Rhythm" was released on the French label Lenox Records.
When it was time to release a cd with most of their recordings, they also released a 7" vinyl single with two unreleased tracks from the Enviken sessions. The tracks were "Toned In My Bones" and "Dried Eye Baby". The cd "The Hi-Winders Story was released on Lenox Records in 1997.
At the end of the 20:th century and the beginning of the 21 they played in Italy, Spain, USA and Sweden. In 2002 they played a 10 year anniversary show in Stockholm before a packed Debaser Club.
In 2005 ther's a number of gigs booked in Sweden, France and England, and ther's plans to record a new record in the fall.
