Jimmy Gilmer & The Fireballs Recorded For Eight Labels During Their 11-Year Relationship, Their Longest Stint Being On The Dot Label. By 1967, The British Invasion Had Started To Sweep The Nation. At The Time Jimmy Was Engrossed In The Folk Scene In New York City, Playing At Folk Clubs In Greenwich Village Alongside Carolyn Hester, Who Was Also Signed To Dot.During That Period, Jimmy Met Folk Singer-Songwriter Tom Paxton And The Two Swiftly Developed An Amicable Working Relationship. Jimmy Recorded One Of Paxton's Songs, Can't Help But Wonder Where I'm Bound, For His Folkbeat Album (Re-Released On A 2-On-1 In Our Fireballs Reissue Programme - Cdchd 665). Shortly Afterwards, Paxton Wrote Bottle Of Wine For Jimmy & The Fireballs. They Started Rehearsing The Track For A Single Release And Became Convinced That It Was A Potential Hit. Dot Boss Randy Wood Rejected The Track So Norman Petty Shopped Around For A New Label, Eventually Signing With What Became The Group's Last Label Before They Disbanded, Atco - Part Of Atlantic Records. Bottle Of Wine Scored A National Top 10 Chart Position, Peaking At #9 In February Of 196 8. Subsequently The Group Recorded A String Of Singles And Two Albums For Atco Which Sold In Respectable Amounts. After Bottle Of Wine, However, Their Singles Failed To Achieve The Same Momentum - Mainly Because Of The Difference In Musical Tastes Between East And West Coast America. Gilmer Recalls That Promoters On The West Coast Would Invest A Reasonable Amount Of Time And Resources Promoting Their Singles While East Coast Promoters Provided Only A Modest Or No Effort At All. As A Result, The Fireballs Scored Top 40 Hits In Some States And Nothing In Other States. This New Release Is Part Of Ace's Exhaustive Reissue Programme Which Has Already Trawled Through The Fireballs Instrumental Garage And Rock'n'roll Repertoire. This 2-On-1 Offers Both Albums Recorded For Atco, Remastered From Norman Petty's Original Master Tapes. The Entire Series Displays The Group's Versatility And Talent. Look Forward To Several Ace Compilation Cds Of Their Unreleased And Rare Sides.
