Had He Not Died Tragically In A Car Crash In 1960, Jesse Belvin Would Certainly Be Ranked Alongside Nat King Cole And Billy Eckstine As One Of The Great Black Crooners. At The Time Of His Death, He Was Signed To Rca, And They Immediately Signed Sam Cooke As His Replacement. This Cd Is Drawn From Recordings That He Made For Dolphins Of Hollywood And Specialty Records Between 1952 And 1958 And Includes 12 Unissued Songs And Alternative Takes Among The 24 Tracks. His First Hit In 1953, "Dream Girl" Is Also On This Compilation And It Was Cut As Jesse & Marvin With Marvin Phillips, Later Of ... & Johnny. Among The Unissued Sides Is A Fantastic Cut "Love Of My Life" Co-Written By George Motola, Who Also Penned Jesse's Biggest Hit "Goodnight My Love"On Modern. Had He Been Alive Today He Would Have Been Only 58 And Might Well Have Been Pursuing An Active Career, But At Least He Left Behind A Superb Musical Legacy As Can Be Heard From These 24 Tracks Of Marvelous R&B.
