Barton machte unverdrossen weiter, heiratete die Sängerin Wanda Wayne, schrieb Songs für Benny Martin und Rose Maddox und nahm in verschiedensten Konstellationen und unter diversen Artist Names Platten bei Labels wie Abbott, Fire, Gulf oder King auf. Sein bekanntester Titel sollte „A Dear John Letter“ bleiben.
